Lilja Nótt Þórarinsdóttir is an Icelandic actress born in Reykjavík. She knew from a very young age where her passions lay after being allowed to join her grandfather at work in the National theatre of Iceland. Although she had worked in several films already she entered the Icelandic academy of the arts in 2005, graduating in 2009 with a Bfa degree in acting. During that period she also co starred alongside actor/director Baltasar Kormákur in the Icelandic/Dutch thriller Reykjavík – Rotterdam (remade as Contraband USA).
She was signed to the National theatre immediately after graduating. One of her first assignments in the theatre was the lead in the theatre’s 60th anniversary performance of one of Iceland’s greatest literary masterpieces, Iceland´s bell. She has worked at the National on and off since then. She has also produced and starred in a couple of her own productions in various theatres in Reykjavík. She has now focused her energy on film and television, working with some big name directors such as George Clooney, The Wachowskis, Awkwafina, Baltasar Kormákur (Trapped) and Börkur Sigthors. She has a couple of big projects set to release in 2023 and 2024 TBA. She has a degree in languages and speaks six different languages apart from her native tongue icelandic.
Lilja Nótt was nominated as best actress in a leading role at Eddan 2022, the Icelandic Film and Television Awards, for her role in Sisterhood.
